One of the more surprising findings was that even after adjusting for weight, many health risks still remained. This suggests that ultra-processed foods may be causing harm in other ways, like triggering inflammation or interfering with how the body processes sugar and fats. The study found higher levels of C-reactive protein and white blood cells in people who ate the most processed foods—both signs that the body is reacting as if it’s under attack. Some researchers believe our bodies may not even fully recognize these foods as natural.

Ultra-processed foods are often low in nutrients but high in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats. They’re usually cheaper and faster to prepare than fresh meals, which is why they’re more common among people with lower incomes. But this study found that no matter your background, eating lots of these foods can harm your health. Researchers are now urging the government to create stronger food policies and improve access to healthier options. The team also plans to study how these foods affect children and women’s health in more detail in the future. For more and about the source Read here.
