Malawi’s Thokozire Kuwali Elected Chairperson of African Internal Auditors Federation
Malawi has earned a proud moment on the continental stage as renowned internal audit expert Thokozire Kuwali has been elected as the new Chairperson of the African Federation of Institutes of Internal Auditors (AFIIA).
Kuwali, who currently serves as the Group Head of Internal Audit at Nico Holdings Plc and is a long-standing member of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malawi (IIA Malawi), was elected during the Federation’s elective annual conference held in Kigali, Rwanda, from May 26 to 30, 2025.
Speaking to Zodiak Online upon her arrival back in Malawi, Kuwali described the election as a significant achievement not only for her personally but for the entire country.

“This is good news for Malawi. My key focus will be to strengthen collaboration among internal audit institutes across Africa and ensure we speak with one strong, unified voice,” said Kuwali.
Her election has been welcomed with excitement back home. Albert Dambula, Chief Executive Officer of IIA Malawi, praised the appointment as a milestone for the internal audit profession in the country.
“We are extremely proud. Kuwali’s election is a clear indication that internal auditing in Malawi has reached a level of excellence recognized across the continent,” said Dambula.
Kuwali’s leadership is expected to usher in a new era of unity, professional standards, and advocacy for internal auditors throughout Africa.
